Honest framework

WSO2 or APISIX? Mostly comes down to your stage.

We back both. Not because we cannot pick, but because Australian enterprises and serious startups have genuinely different gravity. Below is the framework we use to make the call.

Pick WSO2 when

You need a full platform, with identity and monetization, that survives a procurement review.

  • You're an established Australian enterprise.
  • Identity, audit, and data residency are first-order concerns.
  • API monetization is on the roadmap.
  • You have or can build a dedicated platform team.
See the WSO2 page
Pick APISIX when

You're a cost-conscious cloud-native startup that needs a fast gateway, not a full platform.

  • Series A to C scaleup, cloud-native already.
  • Performance and cost predictability are headline metrics.
  • You already have identity / monetization / observability covered.
  • Engineer-led decisions, ASF governance valued.

The honest middle ground

Some businesses run both. That is also a legitimate answer.

We have customers running WSO2 as the enterprise integration plane (gateway, identity, monetization, B2B partner APIs) and APISIX as the high-performance edge / ingress gateway in front of customer-facing services. They do not compete inside the estate, they cover different jobs.

Still not sure which fits?

A 15-minute architecture sanity check is enough for us to give you an honest call. We will tell you which platform fits your stage, and whether you genuinely need either yet.
