An honest list of when we recommend something else.
We back APISIX. We are also honest about its boundaries. Below are the situations where we recommend Kong, Tyk, AWS API Gateway, WSO2, or just plain NGINX instead.
TL;DR
- Procurement requires a single named vendor with enterprise support: WSO2 or Kong Enterprise.
- Workload is AWS-native serverless and intends to stay that way: AWS API Gateway.
- Need full API monetization built-in: WSO2.
- Tiny static API in front of one Lambda: AWS API Gateway or skip the gateway entirely.

What we tell customers.
APISIX is excellent at what it does. It is not always the right tool. The list above is the most credible thing we can put on this page, because it tells you when to ignore our recommendation.
